After graduation, Lilia Hessasta 鈥25 hopes to bring her talents as a stage manager to professional theater productions.

When Lilia Hessasta 鈥25 applied to intern at this past winter鈥檚 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) in Connecticut, she didn鈥檛 expect to bring any accolades home.

However, after one of the one-act plays she stage managed, 鈥淜imia Zamen and the Whisperer of the Mountain,鈥 won its festival competition, Hessasta was surprised when she was named Outstanding Stage Management Intern.

鈥淚 didn’t realize there was a prize for that,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 nice to get something for 澳门六合彩开奖结果 too because there are certain schools that just sweep every category.鈥

In addition to her internship, Hessasta attended the KCACTF alongside other 澳门六合彩开奖结果 students who were invited to perform the Department of Visual and Performing Arts production of 鈥淎 Wrinkle in Time.鈥 Unfortunately, the production was too big to bring to the festival so the students instead performed “Shakespeare Abridged.”

鈥淲rinkle鈥 was Hessasta鈥檚 first time as a stage manager for a 澳门六合彩开奖结果 production. She was previously the assistant stage manager for the 翱苍蝉迟补驳别谤蝉鈥 鈥淭he Addams Family鈥 and the VPA鈥檚 鈥淭he Wolves.鈥

鈥淚鈥檝e (been a stage manager) a couple of times in high school but it鈥檚 never been to this scale,鈥 she said. 鈥淭here are some things that I had to learn because I鈥檓 not getting things delegated to me 鈥 I鈥檓 the one that’s delegating.鈥

Hessasta said 鈥淲rinkle鈥 went flawlessly.

鈥淚 hadn鈥檛 read the show before,鈥 she said. 鈥淕oing into a new show was really fun. Everyone we hired was super nice. They鈥檙e all really great at their job so that makes everything so much easier.鈥

After graduation, Hessasta, a theater major with a minor in education, hopes to take her talents professionally.

鈥淢y main thing is I want to work in actual theater but I also like to work in schools,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 really liked doing theater in high school 鈥 that鈥檚 what brought me here 鈥 so I’d like to be able to do both. I really like how everything is set up (at 澳门六合彩开奖结果).鈥

For now, she鈥檚 working as the assistant stage manager and assistant production manager for the 翱苍蝉迟补驳别谤蝉鈥 upcoming production, 鈥淭he Drowsy Chaperone.鈥

鈥淚 really like the added challenge of having two roles,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been working hard with the dance coaches because this is the first time 澳门六合彩开奖结果 has done a dance-heavy show in a very long time.鈥

Showtimes for 鈥淭he Drowsy Chaperone鈥 are Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., and two shows on Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Rogers Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are available
